I find it amazing how many mediums are available in this day in age for storytelling. When I was growing up we had the bookstore and the library. I realize that I have just dated myself, but part of growing older is owning your age and at nearly 41 years old, I think I should probably just own it and move past any concerns about my age.
That being said, I was talking about the many avenues for storytelling available to writers these days. We have blogs, we have amazon, there are numerous forums online for short story formats, and not to mention the many avenues for publishing eBooks. I've been diving into a number of projects this week that is truly indicative of how ADHD my brain really is, here is a list of what I've been working on:
Finalizing "Character is in the Details"
Finalizing the Editing of "Shadow Freight"
Writing the first draft of "Cosmic Courier"
Writing the first draft of "The Ironhaven Chronicles" more on this later
Writing the first draft of "Parallel Horizons" more on this later
Redesigning all my book covers (with the exception of ACX, more on this later)
Writing the first draft of "Traversing the Multiverse" more on this later
Creating two writing journal with prompts and coloring book pages Legends and Lore, and The Scifi Author's Toolkit
A new short story series in Kindle Vella "Snapshift: The Beginning" more on that later...
Whew, that's more than I realized. It's something different each day, but I am working on all these projects. As to those projects I mentioned I would talk more about let's dive into that.
The Ironhaven Chronicles is a Supernatural-Noir Fantasy set of novels I began working on last week, it is still mostly in the planning stages, but this is definitely going to be a more adult-oriented work as I intend it to be gritty, gruesome, and detailed. As I said it is a Supernatural Noir Fantasy set of novels, so it is going to follow the supernatural world of ghosts, demons, vampires, werewolves, etc. but also is a noir mystery so there is a serial killer and an investigation sort of feel to them. I'll share more as I have more details on what I'm doing.
Parallel Horizons is another different type of concept I've been working on, which is to say I have an outline for the first book but haven't started writing too much yet, this one is more Super powers and multiple realities. I'll have more details as write the book.
So Cover re-designs. I recently reignited my passion for working in Photoshop and decided to put my degrees to use with my graphic designs. So all of my book covers are getting an overhaul, despite some of the advertising I paid for still using the old imagery. Unfortunately, the process for updating covers on ACX (that's audible) is a much more involved process that requires my books to be out of circulation. Since I have a royalty deal with the narrators of those books, I didn't want to put any undue strain on them to update the images, maybe in the future.
My next non-fiction work is Character is in the Details and I know I've shared the cover here, so I won't go too much into that, but it has been released on Amazon in paperback and eBook format. I just put it into ACX for review this morning so we should have an audiobook on that in a couple of months. The audiobook for Worldbuilding is in its final review and should be released in the next week or two.
My last couple of projects I finished yesterday and posted to Amazon, I'm awaiting final approval on those. They are two genre based Journals with Writing Prompts and detailed coloring book pages for writers of SciFi and Fantasy. The first is The Sci-Fi Author's Toolkit and features 30 days of writing prompts and images related to the prompt to color. The second is Legends and Lore and it features 30 days of fantasy writing prompts and images to color. These were fun little things to make and they're only available in paperback. I'll share some mockups of them below.
Finally, regarding Kindle Vella and the Snapshift: The Beginning series of short stories and novella. This is a prequel series of stories prior to the novel Snapshift in the Parallel Horizons setting. The short stories will follow three teens: Maya Martinez, Lucas Bennett, and Blake Thompson as they discover new powers, delve into mysteries of the world, and evade government entities as a new phenomenon takes over the world in 2024. I'll share some concept art below.
That's it for this Author's State, tune in next Tuesday for more. I'll be posting Kindle Vella stories every Monday evening for the continuing Snapshift shorts. You can find them here on Kindle Vella.
As always thanks for visiting, and I'll see you in the stars.
